‘Can you sign my new zaltair?’
I was at SolidWorks World 2007 and was invited as press for the blogs that I do as well I was speaking at the show for three breakout sessions on how to use SolidWorks. I was terribly excited to find out that the Woz was going to keynote at the conference and that as press I would have a chance to be one of a few allowed to meet with him at a press only session.
Preparing for the show I was thinking that I wanted my macbook pro signed by the Woz and I was going to do everything in my power to make that happen. Now even though I would be in a small room with only press to meet with him the chances of having him sign my mac was low. This was not acceptable. So knowing he was a big prankster..Is a big prankster, and also knowing of one of his all time big pranks the zaltair incident I could capitalize on this! I made a zaltair decal to cover my apple logo on my computer and would leverage that by asking him if he would sign my ‘zaltair’.
I had the opportunity just after he finished his speech. Now getting a hero of yours to sign your macbook is seriously cool, but after I got his signature I figured I had asked enough and would not bother him for a picture. As I walked away he called back to me ‘get back here I want a pictue of this!’ To have his signature was cool, to have the Woz ask for his picture with me was unfrigginbelivable!
Anyhow that is my close encouter of the Woz kind.
